Peaceable Paws Multi-Species Academy with Pat Miller
Duration: 6 days: Monday through Saturday
Size: Limited to 8 students
Our six-day Multi-Species Academy will address force-free/clicker training for species other than dogs. This is an opportunity to apply the principles of behavior and learning with a different animal, and realize the critical importance of understanding other species (their natural behaviors and what is reinforcing) in order to successfully work with them. We may have cats, horses, rabbits, birds and some other small companion animals to work with. Students for this course will research the species they choose as their primary subject and present a plan for the week’s training. They are welcome to bring their own “other” species with them, within reason and with pre-approval. There are some reading requirements prior to the course start date, and quizzes and a final written and practical exam during the course.
Prerequisites are either successful completion of our L1 Basic Canine Training and Behavior Academy or an ongoing program of self-study and passing the Level 1 written exam with a score of 70% or better, then submitting videos for review of the student clicker training a subject to perform specified behaviors. If the student is too far away to take the exam here, we can find a trainer to administer the exam within a reasonable distance of his/her location.
